Blackmoor Knight introduces plug-in hybrid Ford Transits to its fleet

In July 2026, Blackmoor Knight introduced its first plug-in hybrid Ford Transit vans to support our building maintenance and engineering work across London. Our engineers have been using them on their daily rounds, and the feedback so far has been simple: they love them.
For a maintenance business, the real test of a van is what it can do over the course of a working day. Our engineers need room for their tools, equipment and spare parts, and their schedules can take them to several sites in a day. We wanted to see how plug-in hybrids would fit into that routine, from carrying what’s needed for each job to charging between visits.

How charging fits into the working day
The vans are charged at our engineers’ homes and topped up at public charging points when needed. That gives the team two ways to charge, depending on where the day takes them.
As plug-in hybrids, the Transits can run on electric power when the battery has sufficient charge and use the engine when needed. For a team whose routes and schedules vary, that flexibility lets us use electric power where practical while still having the option to complete longer journeys without relying on a charging stop.
What we’re learning from the engineers who drive them
Our engineers are the people best placed to tell us whether a van works for the business. They know what they need to carry, how their journeys change from one day to the next and where charging fits comfortably into their schedules. Their feedback gives us a better basis for choosing future vehicles than looking at range and carrying capacity on paper alone.
The positive response is an encouraging start. As the Transits spend more time on the road, we’ll build a clearer picture of how often the team can use electric power on its usual routes and how the vans fit into the demands of maintenance and engineering work. That experience will inform future fleet decisions as we look for practical ways to use electric power on more of our journeys.
